Entrepreneurship Education and Training
EUVETA Phase I: Kwa Heri!
After four years of hard work by all involved, the first phase of the Elimu ya Ujasiriamali VETA (EUVETA) project came to an end in April 2009.
Time to reflect – and celebrate our many achievements! On Friday 24th April 2009 an exciting end-of-project event took place at MVTTC in Morogoro. It brought together the key players in the EUVETA programme, including VETA senior management, Regional Directors, Centre Managers, Registrars, Entrepreneurship Education and Training (EET) Teachers from the seven pilot centres and representatives from MVTTC and the lead consultant Triodos Facet.
The main purpose of the occasion was to acknowledge the efforts by each member during the process of implementation, as well as to thank NUFFIC and the Government of the Netherlands for their financial support towards building capacity of mainstreaming Entrepreneurship in curricula of VET institutions in Tanzania.
The occasion has been officiated by the Chairman of the VET board in attendance of VETA Director General. It was an opportunity to appreciate the project’s results in more detail. Plus: learn more on MVTTC’s EET computer centre and E-learning facility, multimedia efforts and the published EET training and learning materials.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP - A WAY OF LIFE.
To deal with today’s challenges in the struggle for growth and prosperity, individuals need an entrepreneurial attitude. This is more than true for the young boys and girls who graduate from our vocational centres every year. The vast majority of them will not find a salaried job in the formal economy. They resort to the informal economy and self-employment. But more then often, they lack adequate business skills and entrepreneurial minds to ensure their success.
Technical skills by themselves are not enough to start and grow a successful business. Characteristics like risk taking, innovation and determination need to be nurtured. Marketing and planning skills have to be developed. All this is part of the Entrepreneurship Education and Training programme (EET) developed by the EUVETA project.
VETA and the Morogoro Vocational Teachers Training College (MVTTC), in partnership with the Dutch consultancy firm Triodos Facet and the International Training Centre of the ILO in Italy (ILO-ITC), have developed the EUVETA project with funding from NUFFIC in the Netherlands. It aims to enable youth in VET centres to develop entrepreneurial attitudes and competencies.
This will allow them to make better use of entrepreneurial opportunities within society. As such, we hope they will become role models to others – both VET-trainees and society at large. Because there is a need for us to change perceptions and attitudes about self-employment and business. Entrepreneurship can be a very rewarding alternative to salaried employment. In fact, it can – and should be – a way of life!
