New Project in Armenia: SUCCESS!
After the final seminar of the pilot project on strengthening supply chains organized in June by our partner BSC in Armenia, discussions were started with ICCO to obtain funding for a follow-up project for the period October 2006 to December 2007.
After some rewriting of the project proposal, a new contract was signed with a budget of € 85,000, and a small role for FACET in advising and providing backstopping to the BSC project team. As in the pilot phase, the project coordinator will be Zaruhi Ohanyan. Likewise, the FACET consultant involved is Gerrit Ribbink. Some of the goals of the SUCCESS-project are:
- To develop strategies for each sub sector;
- Increase contracts between processors and farmers;
- Conduct training on cost calculation for farmers.
- To identify new market opportunities for the supply chains.
- To Increase awareness and application of new technologies.
- Strengthen trust between consumers, processors and farmers.

The new project started on October 1st, 2006 under the new name SUCCESS, which stands for “Strengthening sUpply Chains’ Commercial, Environmental and Social Sustainability”. To start off, meetings with different stakeholders and support organizations were held to present the project and round tables for each sub-sector were organized to discuss the main issues to be dealt with in the project and to create working groups. The next round table meetings of the working groups will be held in January 2007.
