Biography Mr. Rick van der Wiel (1956) starts in May 2012 as long-term TF project staff in Papua New Guinea where he'll perform the services of small business banking Resident Advisor. As a long-standing banker, and having set up a (rural) bank himself (in Mozambique), he combines seniority with cultural sensitivity, which will provide him with the necessary credibility. Mr. Rick van der Wiel is a highly experienced bank manager, who climbed through the ranks and has executed numerous operational and management positions within Rabobank – a major Dutch cooperative bank – between 1978 and 2009. From the mid-1980s onwards he worked in various branch and departmental management functions. Based on his ability to build teams and improve results, he was subsequently assigned from 1999 to 2002 by Rabobank’s head office to lead a series of difficult change trajectories (like mergers and turnarounds) as interim manager for several member banks. From 2002 to 2006 he was appointed as the director of a large regional Rabobank to head its commercial turnaround and the merger of local member banks, with a combined balance sheet of over € 1.2bln and over 170 staff. Over the period Mr. van der Wiel has developed into a seasoned and all-round manager. His skills lay on both the credit and the operational side, having headed credit committees, local banks as well as a series of organisational change trajectories.
